With over 40 years of experience, Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. (EHI) has established itself as a recognized leader in equine-assisted therapy, youth development, and cultural preservation. Building on that legacy, we’ve launched Black Boots Venue Rentals—a versatile event space set within our unique equestrian grounds.
We recognized a critical need in Hartford for affordable, accessible, and culturally rich venues where people can gather and celebrate. In response, we developed this new social enterprise to generate earned income that directly supports our mission-driven work. Through our participation in the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving’s Social Enterprise Accelerator (SEA), we’ve spent the last several months developing a business plan with expert consultants from No Margin, No Mission to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
Nonprofit organizations across Greater Hartford are facing increased demand for services while navigating limited funding. We’re one of several organizations proactively meeting this challenge by launching a social enterprise that complements our mission and strengthens our financial future.
Black Boots Venue Rentals offers a distinct indoor and outdoor experience—including the Mary Fields Museum and a 30x50 event tent—perfect for weddings, corporate retreats, and community celebrations. Nestled in the 693-acre historic Keney Park, our venue offers a scenic, peaceful backdrop that feels a world away from the city—while still being right in Hartford’s backyard.
Every rental directly supports Ebony Horsewomen’s work with youth, families, and veterans through equine-assisted therapy, leadership development, and community-based programs. And every donation helps us grow this new venture and deepen our impact.

We’re currently raising startup capital to grow Black Boots Venue Rentals. Thanks to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, every dollar you donate will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to 50% of our goal (not to exceed $30,000). But this match is only available until September 17—so now is the time to give!
